Project Overview
Description:
We developed a detailed LOD 350 As-Built 3D model, or digital twin, of an existing industrial production facility based on point cloud data. The model includes the facility’s architecture, electrical systems, piping, mechanical equipment, and supporting infrastructure, with hundreds of machines and systems accurately modeled and organized.
The primary objective was to provide the project team with a reliable digital representation of the current production facility, enabling them to remotely assess existing conditions and plan the upgrade and expansion of the production capacity.
Scope of Work:
1. As-Built 3D Modeling:
Developed a detailed LOD 350 As-Built 3D model directly from point cloud data.
Modeled and organized the existing industrial facility, including:
- Architectural elements
- Electrical systems
- Piping systems
- Mechanical equipment
- Production machinery
- Supporting infrastructure
Grouped and structured hundreds of machines and systems to provide a clear and organized representation of the existing facility.
2. Digital Twin Development:
Created a digital representation of the existing production facility reflecting the current as-built conditions.
Structured the model to provide the project team with a comprehensive view of the facility without requiring continuous physical presence on site.
3. 3D Data Optimization:
Optimized and organized the 3D model to ensure efficient navigation, visualization, and use during the design and engineering phases.
Prepared the model as a reliable reference for future modifications, installations, and coordination activities.
4. Production Capacity Upgrade Support:
Provided the project team with an accurate digital basis for planning the upgrade of the existing production facility.
The model supports the assessment and adaptation of existing spaces and installations required for the integration of additional systems and equipment into the existing production infrastructure.
Key Outcomes
LOD 350 As-Built Model: Delivered a detailed and accurate 3D representation of the existing industrial facility based on point cloud data.
Complete Facility Representation: Integrated architecture, electrical systems, piping, mechanical equipment, and hundreds of machines and systems into one coordinated digital environment.
Remote Project Coordination: Enabled the project team, located at a different location from the industrial facility, to access and review the existing conditions digitally.
Upgrade & Expansion Planning: Provided a reliable foundation for adapting existing spaces and systems and planning the installation of additional equipment and infrastructure.
Digital Twin: Created a comprehensive digital twin of the production facility that can serve as a reference throughout the upgrade, engineering, coordination, and future maintenance activities.
This project transformed the existing production facility into a detailed LOD 350 digital environment, giving the project team a reliable and centralized view of the current site conditions. The digital twin enables more efficient remote collaboration, supports the planning of production capacity upgrades, and reduces uncertainty when integrating new systems and equipment into the existing industrial infrastructure.
