The Advantages of Industrial Laser Scanning for Manufacturing Projects
Industrial laser scanning is an advanced method used to capture parametric data from the environment in the form of point clouds. Utilizing a 3D scanner, this technique can achieve accuracy levels up to 1 mm, effectively collecting data from distances ranging from 60 cm to 130 m. The output, known as a Point Cloud, creates an identical virtual 3D representation of the actual environment, enabling highly detailed and accurate analysis.
Applications
Capital Investment Planning:
In manufacturing, precise planning and implementation of capital investments are crucial. Industrial laser scanning captures the existing conditions of the environment where new equipment is to be installed. This data facilitates thorough communication, design, and execution of the investment project.
Design and Simulation:
The close correlation between the real environment and the virtual model allows for effective design and simulation. The conditions impacting the system can be accurately replicated, leading to reliable simulations and analyses that provide vital insights during the initial design phase.
Documentation for Future Reference:
Conducting scanning at various stages of construction or installation generates valuable documentation that can be used to locate specific installations or components—particularly useful in identifying elements situated within walls or closed systems without requiring additional exploration.
Installation Inspection:
Once installation is complete, subsequent scans compare the actual installation against the detailed design represented in the Point Cloud. This process verifies the accuracy of the installation and is also applicable for inspecting existing equipment to assess depreciation.
Benefits:
Utilizing industrial laser scanning accelerates the installation process of new equipment, mitigates risks, reduces costs, enhances control during project implementation, and provides comprehensive documentation of the project lifecycle.
